Smart Sitting: Reducing Cancer Risk with Short Movements

A comprehensive study involving 91,000 participants found that prolonged sitting, especially without movement, can greatly increase the risk of cancer. The results of this recently published research indicate that simply incorporating short and intermittent movements throughout the day can significantly reduce this risk.

Why are Short Movements Beneficial?

Experts believe that short movements not only help improve blood circulation but also reduce inflammation and enhance metabolism. These factors can, in turn, play a crucial role in preventing chronic diseases, including cancer. Therefore, instead of continuous sitting, it is better to occasionally get up and perform some movements.

In this study, participants were sitting for an average of 10 hours a day. However, those who regularly got up and engaged in light movements had significantly lower cancer risk. These findings could serve as a guide for changing daily habits and improving lifestyle.
