In an unintentional error in the payment system, about 2000 people in the state of Hesse, Germany, received double the amount of Bafög. This incident occurred in July, and now the Hesse Ministry of Science has reacted to this issue, stating that the recipients of these funds are obligated to repay them.
Why Did This Error Occur?
According to officials, this additional payment was due to "a combination of errors in the workflow of service providers." The ministry has also announced that it is reviewing and revising the relevant processes to prevent such errors from happening in the future.
Bafög, which is provided to financially support individuals preparing for a specific educational degree, includes various courses such as vocational training, coaching, and management. According to the Ministry of Education, over 700 types of educational courses qualify for this financial support.
