The investigation into the suspicious fire of the famous mouse statue in Cologne has reached a dead end after a year. Judicial authorities have announced that the case has been temporarily closed due to the absence of any clues. This statue, which is a symbol of the popular television program "Sendung mit der Maus," was set on fire on the night of July 26, 2025, and was severely damaged.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, an unidentified individual arrived at the scene on a women's bicycle and set the statue on fire between 11:35 PM and 12:40 AM. This person was present at the location for over an hour, attempting to ignite the fire using flammable materials. After the statue was engulfed in flames, they escaped the scene on the bicycle.
The police had released images of the suspect early in the investigation, but these images were recently removed from the police website due to the expiration of the judicial permit. Fans of the statue demonstrated their continued love for this cultural symbol by placing multiple stickers on its damages after the incident. Ultimately, the statue returned to its original location in front of the WDR building at the end of August.
