Following the new hospital reforms, two major hospitals in Potsdam, namely the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic and St. Joseph Hospital, have decided to reduce their services. These changes particularly include the cessation of services in the fields of orthopedics and vascular surgery at the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic.

Why These Changes?

The management of these hospitals has stated that this action is necessary for "innovation" and to comply with the requirements of national hospital reforms. According to these officials, "not every specialized medical service can be permanently offered at every hospital location."

On the other hand, St. Joseph Hospital has also announced its intention to close its neurology and obstetrics departments. This hospital, which will soon become majority-owned by Alexianer, aims to focus on surgery, internal medicine, vascular medicine, and orthopedics.

The hospital reforms are designed to reduce costs and improve the quality of healthcare services. Meanwhile, some hospitals in various parts of the country have limited their services in line with this trend. The government of Brandenburg emphasizes that a minimum level of healthcare services must be maintained in all regions.
