While in the twentieth century, the populations of many whales were on the brink of extinction, hopeful news is now coming from Antarctica. In this region, signs of whale population revival have been observed, which has greatly surprised researchers.
Death of Whale 'Timmy'
However, amidst this joy, the death of a famous whale named 'Timmy' in mid-May has left a sorrowful mark on wildlife enthusiasts. This whale, which had attracted much attention, is currently near the Danish island of Anholt, and Danish authorities have decided to retrieve its body for an autopsy. For many following the fate of this whale, this news was extremely disappointing.
Bright Future for Whales
On the other hand, good news is coming from Antarctica. Researchers like Ted Cheeseman, during an exploratory trip between the South Orkney Islands and the Antarctic continent, have observed that in the past 25 years, the number of whales has significantly increased. In the past, only one or two whales were seen in this area, but now the conditions have changed in such a way that it seems a new hope has emerged on the horizon for these marine creatures.
